Opening a New Chapter in Interdisciplinary Sustainability

About the College

The College of Sustainability began its planning in 2022. After multiple rounds of internal review, it was officially approved by the Ministry of Education on August 16, 2024, retroactively established in the first semester of the 113th academic year, becoming the 13th college of the University.

The College is committed to serving as a central think tank and action hub for Taiwan’s higher education in addressing global climate crises and social transformation. With interdisciplinary integration as its foundation, the College cultivates future leaders equipped with sustainable governance perspectives, technological innovation capabilities, and social impact, driving net-zero transformation, social inclusion, and green economic transition from campus to the national level.

In the 114th academic year, the College has 3 full-time faculty members and 12 jointly appointed faculty members. An external center— the “Center for Net-Zero Governance and Talent Development”—has been established to support the Ministry of Environment and National Environmental Research programs for net-zero green talent training. The center delivers sustainability education, carbon accounting training, net-zero capacity-building courses, and certification planning for both campus and industry partners. It strengthens alignment between academia and industry, integrates expertise in carbon governance, energy transition, and climate policy, and builds a cross-disciplinary research and teaching platform for carbon management.

For the 115th academic year, the College has been approved to establish one degree program and one graduate institute: the Sustainable Technology Master’s Program (Nanda Campus) and the Institute of Sustainable Development and Climate Policy (Kaohsiung Campus). Each program is expected to enroll 15 graduate students annually and hire 3–4 full-time faculty members. All full-time faculty will hold joint appointments with other colleges across the university.
