On Earth Day, a moment of global reflection, we are reminded that humanity stands at a critical turning point. Climate change, resource constraints, and ecological stress are no longer distant concerns—they are urgent realities. Earth Day is not merely symbolic; it is a commitment to future generations, calling for more systematic, science-based, and collaborative approaches to sustainability challenges.
The College of Sustainability at National Tsing Hua University was founded in response to these pressing challenges. We believe that a university must not only generate knowledge, but also demonstrate how that knowledge can be translated into action. Our vision is to develop a “Smart Net-Zero Living Lab Campus,” where sustainability is practiced, measured, and continuously improved.
In practice, we are advancing sustainability through multiple initiatives: ecological innovation in campus spaces, the development of a sustainability identity system, international climate policy programs, and ESG forums. These efforts aim to build an integrated platform that connects education, research, and societal impact. Through talent development and interdisciplinary collaboration, we are strengthening the link between academia and industry to turn sustainability into actionable capability.
Furthermore, the Climate Resilience and Carbon Circularity Sharing Center (CRCCS) represents a concrete embodiment of Earth Day’s spirit. From net-zero governance and carbon accounting to natural capital and negative emissions technologies, we are building scalable and verifiable sustainability models that connect industry, academia, and society.
Looking ahead, the College of Sustainability remains committed to:
Cultivating talent with sustainability literacy and leadership;
Advancing interdisciplinary research and translating it into real-world solutions;
Extending impact beyond campus to address societal and global sustainability challenges.
Earth Day reminds us that the future is not something we inherit, but something we actively shape. Together with our faculty, students, and partners, we will continue moving forward with clarity and determination to create a truly sustainable future for our planet.
